Summer Dance Academy 2015
June 14th – 20th, 2015

Young Academy (June 15th – 19th, 2015)
This week-long dance program is targeted toward children ages 5-10 years old, with little to no previous dance experience. Daily classes take place at the WVU Creative Arts Center from 9am-1pm. The program offers exquisite instruction by current students and alum of the WVU Dance Program. Students will get experience and receive daily instruction in a variety of dance styles that will include Ballet, Creative Movement, Jazz, Hip-hop and Tap.
Teen Academy (June 14th – 20th, 2015)
This weeklong, in residence dance program, is geared towards dancers ages 12-18 and requires that applicants have at least 3 years of prior dance experience. Faculty includes current WVU Dance Program faculty as well as guest artists. The Teen program offers daily dance technique classes in a variety of styles as well as daily classes in Yoga, dance fitness and other specialty movement classes. A showcase is presented on the last day of the academy, presenting student work and original work choreographed by SDA faculty. A one-on-one performance coaching session with the SDA faculty is offered to each student performer presenting a piece. The final showcase is presented on the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre stage. Students have the option to live on campus in a designated residence hall.
Teachers Academy (June 14th – 20th, 2015)
The Teachers Academy program offers professional enrichment opportunities for dance educators K-16 as well as for private studio teachers and owners. This weeklong program takes place at the WVU Creative Arts Center and is taught by WVU Dance faculty and guest artists. The daily schedule consists of but is not limited to, movement technique classes as well as a variety of sessions such as integrating technology and dance for artistic and business needs, dancers with and without disabilities, dance education in the public school setting, world dance, national standards in dance, music for dance classes and choreography, dance pedagogy and more. A flexible schedule allows participants to take and/or observe a variety of classes or to only focus on one or more particular offerings pertaining to their area of expertise. Participants are also welcome to participate in original works choreographed by SDA faculty and guests.
A special tuition discount is offered to teachers who register their students to SDA.
On campus room and board is available.
