Summer Dance Academy 2021 - dancer in mask with hand on hipJuly 11 - 17, 2021

Welcome

If you are a retuning Summer Dance Academy participant, supporting parent or guardian, or a prospective newcomer, I thank you for your interest in the WVU School of Theatre & Dance 2021 Summer Dance Academy (SDA). On behalf of all of us who make SDA happen from year-to-year, I welcome you to our website. This year marks the 11th year for SDA. Last year’s virtual week was new for all of us but we still had fun even when we were apart.  We are so glad to be back for an in person summer program. We look forward to an exciting and stimulating week of dance. As in past years, we will be presenting a wide variety of classes. In keeping with our mission, we will continue to have an exciting lineup of classes taught by gifted and experienced faculty that include members of the WVU Dance Program and guest artists from far and near.

In adjusting to Covid protocols, this summer still promises to be a week packed with dance and creativity. I invite you to take a moment and read through the following information about our offerings. I hope that you will find a program that best suits your dance aspirations or that of your young dancer. Please feel free to share the site with others who might also be interested in joining us. Contact us if you have any questions or need further assistance with the application process. We look forward to meeting and introducing you to the WVU campus and the Creative Arts Center.

(subject to change per WVU, state and federal guidelines)

This past year has been challenging to say the least. One of the takeaways that we in the dance community have learned is that the arts are an essential part of our lives, especially during such arduous times. For most of this past year we have danced apart, taken classes virtually, and missed sharing dance with audience members. As we look ahead, we are hopeful that we can slowly transition back to the normal we knew before.

As we prepare our in-person summer program we are working to ensure the health and safety of our participants within our dance spaces, dorms, and around campus. Rest assured that we will be doing all that is possible for our summer dancers to have the unique and fun experience that the WVU Summer Dance Academy has been known for the past 10 years.
