Become a Mountaineer

The West Virginia University School of Theatre & Dance has all the advantages of a large university with the one-on-one attention that only a close-knit artistic home can offer. From acting to scenic design and technology, theatre students at WVU are immersed in our production-oriented, pre-professional training program with a rigorous curriculum and artistically diverse performance opportunities balanced within the context of a liberal arts education.

Applications are still being accepted for the 2019-20 academic year. Those interested in scholarships must apply by April 1.

Masterworks Project: Doug Varone 

Award-winning choreographer and director Doug Varone through the School of Theatre & Dance’s Masterworks Project. He helped the senior BA dance majors perform a section of his dance piece, "MASS".  In the past, through the Mastworks Project, WVU dance majors have done works by Billy Siegenfeld, Artistic Director of Jump Rhythm Jazz from Chicago, Lawrence Jackson from Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Meredith Dincolo from Hubbard Street Dance, Chicago, Holly Williams former member of the Mark Morris and Laura Dean dance companies as well as independent choreographers such as Adam Baruch from NYC, WV choreographers Donald Laney, Angela Dennis, Gretchen Moore and Dan Karaznik from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA.

"Dance Now!"  takes the stage in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre at the Creative Arts Center Feb. 28- March 1 at 7:30 p.m. and March 2 at 2pm. Tickets for “Dance Now!” are available on campus at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center Box Office locations (Mon. - Fri. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), by calling 304-293-SHOW (7469) and online at http://ticketmaster.com. What’s Going On With Puppetry At WVU!

For over 30 years, the West Virginia University Puppet Mobile has been dedicated to bringing live puppet performances and educational outreach to audiences around the state of West Virginia.... 

The WVU Puppet Mobile is getting ready to open a new show, Mrs. Piggywiggle and the Radish Cure . The  Puppet Mobile Players, Sound Designer Kelly Bell and Professor Alan McEwen are producing a digitally mixed recording for the show tour comprised of character voices, music and sound effects.

WVU Summer Academies

Summer Dance Academy offers students in the Teen and Teacher academies on campus housing and the opportunity to earn college credit in both these programs. ACCESS, college or Professional Development credits are available. We pride our  program in fostering a one-on-one training environment with high quality dance instruction, in an inclusive, friendly and safe environment on the campus of WVU. 

Summer Acting Academy is a one-week professional theatre training program for young actors who wish to explore and develop their skills in all areas of performance.  Open to students of all levels of theatre experience, our program provides quality training for the beginning actor, as well as advanced level study for the young actor with previous experience.   


Summer Dance Academy Dates:
June 23 - 29, 2019

Summer Acting Academy Dates:
The Young Academy (ages 7-11)
June 17 - June 21 
The Teen Academy (ages 12-18)
June 16 - June 22
