The Teachers Academy program offers professional enrichment opportunities for dance educators K-16 as well as for private studio teachers and owners. This weeklong program takes place at the WVU Creative Arts Center and is taught by WVU Dance faculty and guest artists. The daily schedule consists of but is not limited to, movement technique classes as well as a variety of sessions such as integrating technology and dance for artistic and business needs, dancers with and without disabilities, dance education in the public school setting, world dance, national standards in dance, music for dance classes and choreography, dance pedagogy and more. A flexible schedule allows participants to take and/or observe a variety of classes or to only focus on one or more particular offerings pertaining to their area of expertise. Participants are also welcome to participate in original works choreographed by SDA faculty and guests.
Students may register to earn graduate or professional development credit for participation in the program.
A special tuition discount is offered to teachers who register their students to the Teen Academy. On campus room and board is available.
