Audition Dates

To be eligible for a theatre scholarship, all applicants must complete the audition and interview process. Dates for auditions and interviews, as well as special College of Creative Arts’ scholarship events, can be found at: http://ccarts.wvu.edu/future_students/events_and_programs

Auditions and Interview Process

ACTING: Applicants will take part in a group workshop and an individual audition/interview. They should wear loose-fitting clothing and be prepared to take part in a variety of acting exercise. Individual auditions and interviews will follow the group audition. For individual auditions, applicants should prepare a one to two minute, one character monologue from a realistic/naturalistic play. The monologue must be memorized. Each applicant will also complete an interview with the performance faculty consisting of a discussion about the applicant’s educational/career goals.

PUPPETRY/CREATIVE DRAMATICS: Applicants will complete an interview. Interviews consist of an informal discussion concerning previous puppetry, theatre, and art experiences as well as educational and career goals. Applicants should bring a copy of their resume, examples of puppetry work, and any other materials related to their work in theatre. The interview will be conducted by the director of the puppetry/creative dramatics program and other members of the theatre faculty.

STAGE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY: The applicants will complete a portfolio interview. The portfolios should contain examples of work in scenery, costumes, and/or lighting, and other evidence of artistic ability (i.e. samples of painting, drawing, sculpture, or related artwork). The interview and portfolio review will be conducted by members of the design and technology faculty, will consist of an informal discussion concerning the applicant’s previous experiences and education and career goals.

GENERAL THEATRE STUDIES: Applicants must complete an interview. They should bring a copy of their resume listing their experiences in theatre, one of two samples of writing, and any other materials related to their work in theatre. Interviews, conducted by members of the theatre studies faculty, will consist of an informal discussion with applicant concerning previous theatre experiences and personal educational and career goals.

All applicants will be assessed on their demonstrated and potential ability in the area of their interest.
