NEW SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY!

APPLICATIONS DUE 8/31/2009!

Through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. William J. Canady, the Division of Theatre and Dance announces a NEW scholarship opportunity!

Up to $2,000 in cash each year through graduation is available if you meet the requirements below. Please note that this scholarship is offered directly from the Valerie Canady Charitable Trust Foundation.

The scholarship requires that you be an undergraduate theatre major with a GPA of 3.5 or better and fluent (verbally) in a second language.

DIVISION SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year, the Division of Theatre and Dance offers more than fifty scholarships. These awards range from a cash grant to WVU’s Fine Arts Scholarship (equal to a full in-state or out-of-state tuition waiver). All awards are competitive and are granted on the basis of outstanding talent, academic achievement, and potential for success in our programs. Awards are not based on financial need.

Awards are available to entering Freshmen and transfer students and are subject to the following guidelines:

  • Freshmen must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or better.
  • Transfer students, current theatre majors, and dance minors must be in good academic standing and have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or better.
  • Recipients of Theatre scholarships must either plan on being a full-time theatre major at WVU (for incoming Freshman or transfer students) or already be enrolled as a theatre major at WVU.
  • Recipients of Dance scholarships must either plan on being a dance minor at WVU (for incoming Freshman or transfer students) or already be enrolled as an active dance minor at WVU.
  • Dance minors are not eligible to receive Fine Arts Scholarships.
  • All cash awards are applied to the recipient’s tuition balance, and any excess is distributed to the student to use for textbooks, materials, or supplies related to their program of study.

Providing that the recipient continues to meet the criteria for maintaining an award and remains an active theatre major or dance minor at WVU, all awards may be renewed until the recipient’s completion of an eighth semester of enrollment at WVU.
