2002-2003 Season

The Laramie Project

by Moisés Kaufman and members of theTectonic Theater Project
In 1998, 21-year-old Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, beaten, and tied to a fence outside Laramie, Wyoming. His body was discovered the next day and he died several days later. Murdered because he was gay, Shepard’s death became a national symbol of intolerance. The Laramie Project chronicles the life of the town in the year following the murder. It is a complex portrayal that dispels simplistic media stereotypes and explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

Twelfth Night

by William Shakespeare
A sweet soufflé of comedy, as only Shakespeare can cook up. In this subtle and lyric tale, everyone yearns for love—but what happens when Mr. Right turns out to be Ms. Wrong? Count Orsino loves Olivia, who loves the mysterious youth Cesario, who in turn longs for Orsino. Only the audience knows, however, that Cesario is really a woman masquerading as a man. Join us and be spirited away to a world of poetry, laughter, and folly in this delightful evening of theatrical fun.

Ghost Sonata

by August Strindberg
Hovering between fantasy and reality, this is an eerie tale of a young man’s search for the girl of his dreams, told as if in a dream. Once translated as the “Spook Sonata,” this play is a classic of the anti-realistic stage; a surreal story of psychological intrigue with vampires, veiled characters, and doors that lead…nowhere. Just because Halloween is over, it doesn’t mean there aren’t any ghosts!
