Join us as we bring this classic horror tale to life. The Vampire, more than a myth, has plagued human minds for centuries, and can strike terror in the most skeptical of hearts. This “re-vamped” adaptation of the Dracula legend promises suspense, screams, and of course . . . “There will be blood.”

The Love of the Nightingale
by Timberlake Wertenbaker,
based on the myth of Philomela by Ovid
The Love of the Nightingale recounts the ancient legend of Philomele. She falls in love with the captain, and then is raped by Tereus, whose lies betray her, then silence is enforced upon Philomele in unmentionable ways. As the acts of Tereus become known, the gods themselves intervene to bring justice for Philomele.

Set in sultry turn-of-the-century Mississippi, this Lee Hoiby opera, based on Tennessee Williams’ play, offers an intimate examination of the eternal man and eternal woman. Can these archetypal figures supply each other with all that their hearts desire? Co-produced with the Division of Music.
