The Arabian Nights

by Mary Zimmerman

Gladys G. Davis Theatre,  WVU Creative Arts Center

Directed by Lee Blair

King Shahryar learns his wife has been unfaithful, and he kills her and her lover. In madness and rage, he loves, weds and kills a young bride each night so as to never again face betrayal. His high counselor’s daughter, Scheherezade, becomes Shahryar’s latest bride, but she delays her fate by beguiling the king with tales of love and lust, humor and adventure.  These fables of Scheherezade's one thousand and one nights, newly adapted by playwright Mary Zimmerman, are better known as The Arabian Nights.
