Cathy O’Dell

Assistant Professor of Theatre – Teaching

Cathy O’Dell teaches Introduction to Theater and Acting. She has also taught Fundamental Vocal Technique for the theater BFA program and Acting/Movement for the Opera/Voice students. She received her teaching certificate in the Michael Chekhov acting technique in 2009.

O’Dell has acted professionally at the American Contemporary Theater Festival. Her regional and local experience includes acting and directing at M.T. Pockets Theater and Fairmont State University. She has appeared in national commercials, training films and industrials. She also works as a voice-over artists and can be heard on numerous commercials, industrials, and websites. O’Dell was also a featured actor in The Learning Channel’s production Night Visitors. She has acted in PBS produced films and training films for the WVU School of Medicine.

O’Dell has received vocal training from Kristin Linklater (advanced Shakespeare), Andrea Haring (Linklater and Chekhov meets Linklater) and Sarah Kane (Rudolf, Steiner.) She trained with Joanna Merlin, Ted Pugh, Ragnar Freidank, and Slava Kokorin, among others in the Michael Chekhov acting technique and Slava Kokorin in the Stanislavski acting technique. She also received Monologue and Audition training from Joanna Merlin. O’Dell acted in WVU’s production of Blood Relations and was the vocal /dialect coach for Vinegar Tom.
