Alan McEwen

Clinical Assistant Professor of Lighting and Sound Design

Alan McEwen has been the Visiting Assistant Professor of Lighting and Sound Design for the WVU Division of Theatre and Dance for the past two years. Previous to WVU, he was the lead Lighting Designer and Technical Director at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington for ten years. While there he built and oversaw all technical aspects of over 100 productions, designing lights and scenery for numerous of those season shows. Along with his numerous teaching responsibilities at Whitman College, he helped to bring in many nationally and internationally known guest artists in the areas of Lighting Design, Scenic Design, and Direction. He has worked professionally as the Resident Lighting Designer at the Idaho Repertory Theatre, 2010. He has also worked several seasons at Colorado Shakespeare Festival as the Assistant Technical Director and Master Carpenter. Some of his lighting design credits include: As You Like it, The Dining Room, Tartuffe, Urinetown, Spring Awakening, Pride and Prejudice, Dracula, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Cripple of Inishmaan, Big Love, Cosi Fan Tutte, Blood Wedding, The Mikado, Radio Gals, Betty’s Summer Vacation, Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Servant of Two Masters, and The Merchant of Venice. Recent Designs at WVU include Hamlet, Dying City, The World Goes Round, Summer and Smoke, and The Grapes of Wrath.
