Alan McEwen

Visiting Assistant Professor of Lighting and Sound Design

BA – Whitman College
MFA – University of Oregon

Professor McEwen has been the Technical Director at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington for the last ten years. There he built and oversaw all technical aspects of over 100 productions, designing lights and scenery for numerous of those season shows. While at Whitman College he taught courses in Stagecraft 1 & 2, Lighting Design, a Seminar in Contemporary Theatre, and various independent study courses. He also has worked several seasons at Colorado Shakespeare Festival as the Assistant Technical Director and Master Carpenter. Some of his lighting design credits include: Tartuffe, Urinetown, Spring Awakening, Pride and Prejudice, Dracula, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, The Cripple of Inishmaan, Big Love, Cosi Fan Tutte, Blood Wedding, The Mikado, Radio Gals, Betty’s summer vacation, Two Gentlemen of Verona, The servant of Two Masters, and The Merchant of Venice.
